CALL FOR ENTRIES – TAMPERE FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SPECIAL DDD60 COMPETITION FOR VR FILMS

Virtual Reality (”VR”) is one of the hottest and fastest growing global tech trends. However, European film and TV industry professionals are still waiting to fully embrace the possibilities of VR innovations. This is both due to lack of creative content and software that would easily enable high-quality viewing in professional settings such as festival film markets.

Tampere Film Festival is one of the partners in DDD60, a project aiming to make VR content more readily available to film industry professionals. In order to map out the state-of-the-art of immersive content, we are now looking for completed VR projects to be screened at Tampere Film Festival 2017.

Tampere Film Festival and the DDD60 consortium will decide which projects will be shortlisted for the DDD60 production support. The shortlisted nominees, as well as the winning film, will be made available for viewing at Tampere Film Festival 2017.

The winning VR project will receive support for production, following a selection process based on the best value for money. Also, we will invite the winner to participate in the DDD60 seminars organized as a part of Tampere Film Festival 2017 (travel and accommodation costs will be covered).

The winner will be announced by February 10th, 2017. Both the nominees and the winner will be decided by Tampere Film Festival in collaboration with the DDD60 consortium.

Tampere Film Festival encourages all creators of immersive content to submit their work!

The goals of DDD60 include creating more efficient video decoding and encoding methods and VR players that work on both desktop computers and mobile devices. The technological development work will be carried out by Spin Digital Video Technologies GmbH and reelport GmbH.

The project will go on till 2018, and during and after the project its findings will be made available to film and TV industry professionals at DDD60 partners Tampere Film Festival, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Sunny Side of the Doc and Marché du Film at Cannes.
